Your data-protection rights in Ghana: an overview
A plain-language introduction to rights under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). Not legal advice.
Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) regulates how organisations process personal data and established the Data Protection Commission. This page is a general introduction, not legal advice.
Rights the Act recognises
- To be informed when your personal data is collected and for what purpose.
- To request access to personal data an organisation holds about you.
- To ask for inaccurate, out-of-date or unlawfully held data to be corrected or deleted.
- To object to processing for direct marketing.
Limits
Many people-search sites are based outside Ghana and may not be subject to Ghanaian law. Their own published opt-out processes are usually the most practical route. For specific legal questions, contact the Data Protection Commission or a qualified lawyer.
